Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and the Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe will host the Inaugural TWALUMBA NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM AWARDS on 3 December 2022, in Harare. The Twalumba National Travel and Tourism Awards are set to recognise outstanding contribution to tourism growth by individuals, groups and corporates alike. Awards will be presented to those who have excelled in operations and services. The awards process will start with an application to be considered for a given category. Thereafter adjudication of entries will be conducted by a panel of judges, followed by short-listing of nominees and capped with the selection of winners. Application for consideration may be made by potential recipients or others.
A call for nominations has been opened to industry and public to submit their nominees for the following categories:
Achievement in Marketing
For a successful and impactful marketing initiative in any field of travel and tourism
Achievement in Digital Marketing
For a successful and impactful digital marketing initiative in any field of travel and tourism
Achievement in Pursuit of Service Excellence
For recognisable high standards of service
Achievement in Cultural Tourism
For promoting cultural awareness through a travel and tourism product and initiative
Achievement in promoting gender equality
For creating opportunities for gender parity and equality
Achievement in human resources development
For developing human capital in pursuit of travel and tourism excellence
Contribution from Public Sector
Contribution by a ministry, department, agency or any public sector organisation to the growth, development and well-being of the travel and tourism industry
Achievement in Innovation
For recognised and recognisable effort to innovate in the best interests of travel and tourism, or creation of new product or services within the sector
Lifetime Achievement Award(s)
For contribution by an individual or organisation to the growth, development and well-being of the travel and tourism industry sector over a period no shorter than 10 years. There is no limit to the number of recipients of this award in any given year.Best Training Institution
For successful training and development of people within the travel and tourism
Accommodation Facility of the Year
Presented to an accommodation facility of any kind with recognised and consistently high standards of infrastructure, operations and service, bringing credit to Zimbabwe and its tourism product.
Restaurant of the Year
Presented to a dining venue of any kind, except in the field of fast food, that has exceptional standards of cuisine, service, infrastructure and brings credit to Zimbabwe through is operations.
Fast Food Outlet
Presented to a fast food establishment with high standards of infrastructure, service and food presentation, and meets international standards of turnaround time for customers
Airline of the Year
Presented to an airline that has shown commitment and continued service to Zimbabwe through consistent flight schedules, adherence to time schedules, safety, innovation and promotion of Zimbabwe or any destination within Zimbabwe
Car Rental Operator of the Year
Presented to a car hire operator with a suitable range of vehicles, whether self-drive or chauffeur-driven, with a recognised reputation for efficiency, safety and back-up service.
Travel Agency of the Year
Presented to a travel agent or agency that has proven standards of efficiency and service, as well as an ability to provide comprehensive travel agency services to its customers
Tour Operator of the Year
Presented to a tour operator providing outstanding tour packages and with tour guides who have excellent product knowledge and good communication skills. The tour operator should be able to provide suitable, top-quality transport
Conference Facility of the Year
Presented to a conference facility that can cater for local, regional or international conferences with state-of-the-art equipment and services, and has a high standard of infrastructure.
Eco-Tourism Facility of Initiative of the Year
Presented either to an institution promoting or utilising green initiatives, or to an initiative introduced to protect or enhance the environment in the best interests of the travel and tourism sector
Event of the Year
Presented to an event that has contributed to the well-being, growth or revival of travel and tourism through driving visitor numbers and receipts. The event does not necessarily have to have been organised by individuals or organisations in the travel and tourism sector
Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Year
Presented to an individual or organisation undertaking a project or activity in the field of social responsibility, this placing the travel and tourism sector in a favourable light through a display of responsible action and genuine care
Coverage of travel and tourism in the print media
Presented to an individual or media house who or which has contributed to travel and tourism development through writing, publishing or reporting on the sector or related matters in the print media
Coverage of travel and tourism in the broadcast media
Presented to an individual or media house who or which has contributed to travel and tourism development through covering the sector or related matters in the broadcast media
Coverage of travel and tourism in the online media
Presented to an individual or organisation who or which has contributed to travel and tourism development through coverage of the sector or related matters in the online field, including social media
Tour Guide of the Year
A special award is presented to an individual who has contributed to the experience of visitors by a recognised display of knowledge and guest relations, and which has placed Zimbabwe in a positive light, as well as being an example to other tour guides and aspiring tour guides
Tourism Image Builder of the Year
Presented to an individual, whether within the sector or not, who has contributed to travel and tourism development through any activity that helps create destination awareness and a positive image for Zimbabwe as a country, especially as a tourist destination.
Tourism Business of the Year
For contribution by an organisation to the growth, development and well-being of the travel and tourism sector
Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year
For contribution by an entrepreneur or SME to the growth, development and well-being of the travel and tourism sector
Tourism Personality of the Year
For contribution by an individual to the growth, development and well-being of the travel and tourism sector through impactful activity of any kind
